Posted in Figurative works with tags canvas, figure, oil, painting on June 8, 2010 by Safa Samiezade'-YazdThis is a painting from a series of paintings called “All Around Paintings.” You can hang them from any side. The subject of the painting is my friend Katie Fitch. She would come down to Denver from Laramie, where she was going to school, and I would visit her, she would take me to the rock formations called Vedavu, which I kept calling Voodooville. Hence, the title of the piece.

Posted in Street Scenes with tags canvas, Chicago, oil, street scene on June 7, 2010 by Safa Samiezade'-YazdI lived in Chicago from 1989-1991. I used to bike all over the city, and this painting is from a sketch I did during one of those bike rides. I lived near Fullerton Avenue, and Fullerton then was dotted with strange dive-y bars characterized by unusual signs and facades. Most of these establishments were rundown and past their prime, which attracted me to them. When I sketched them, it made me feel like I was documenting a fleeting, bizarre epic of Chicago diviness.
